“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
— C.S. Lewis
Every week, I meet virtually with a brilliant and generous group of estate planning and elder law attorneys from all over the country. We share challenges, lessons, encouragement—and sometimes, just life.
Recently, we were given a prompt: “What would you tell your younger self?”
At first, I expected the usual: a few well-worn phrases, maybe some nostalgic stories. But what unfolded over the next hour was something far deeper. Vulnerable. Brave. Real.
We opened up about the things we’ve learned the hard way, the advice we still need to hear, and the lessons we didn’t even know we were learning at the time. Despite being in different states and on different screens, we were deeply connected.
One comment in particular stuck with me:
“Why not you?”
Three little words. But they hit hard.
We’ve all been there—waiting to feel ready. Waiting for the perfect time. Waiting until we feel more qualified or until the chaos settles down.
But let’s be honest: life rarely hands us the perfect moment wrapped in a bow. Whether we’re talking about starting a new business, planning for the future, or having that difficult but important conversation—we hesitate.
So here’s what I want to ask you (and what I’m asking myself too):
Why not you? Why not now?
It’s so easy to believe that planning ahead—especially something as grown-up and responsible as estate planning—is for someone else. Someone older. Someone wealthier. Someone more “settled.”
But that’s just not true.
I work with young parents building a life for their kids. I work with business owners who are growing something meaningful. I work with blended families trying to do the right thing for everyone they love. I work with people who never thought they needed a will—until they suddenly realized they did.
They’re not “other people.” They’re you. They’re me.
And guess what? The clients I work with are some of the most thoughtful, responsible, and generous people I’ve ever met—not because they waited until everything was perfect, but because they decided to act.
One of the other things we talked about in that mastermind meeting was how scary it can be to step into something new. To admit what we don’t know. To ask for help.
Here’s the secret: You don’t have to have it all figured out.
That’s why I do what I do. I help people take the next step—no matter where they’re starting from. Whether you’re writing your first will or creating a trust to protect the home you’ve worked so hard for, my job is to guide you. With clarity, compassion, and zero judgment.
Because here’s what I believe: everyone deserves a plan that protects what they love. Everyone deserves a legacy. And it’s never too soon to start.
As I reflected on that mastermind conversation, I thought about my own journey—starting this law firm, building relationships in my community, and showing up for clients during some of the hardest and most meaningful moments of their lives.
What would I tell my younger self?
Probably something like this:
You’re allowed to do it your way.
You don’t have to wait for permission.
It’s okay to not have all the answers.
You’re more capable than you think.
And most of all—why not you?
Have you been putting off making a plan?
Do you know you should do it, but life just keeps getting in the way?
Are you telling yourself that it can wait?
If so, I get it. And I want to gently challenge you today:
Why not you? Why not now?
Whether you’re planning for kids, aging parents, pets, property, or peace of mind, you deserve to have a plan that reflects your life and your values.
You don’t need to be older. Or richer. Or more ready.
You just need to start. And I’ll walk with you every step of the way.
If you’ve been thinking about estate planning but don’t know where to begin, let’s chat. I offer a free 30-minute Discovery Meeting to talk through your goals and help you understand your options.
No pressure. No sales pitch. Just honest, compassionate guidance from someone who truly cares.
Let’s protect what matters most. Let’s build your legacy—starting now.
Because why not you?
